'In The Mood' takes audience back to the '40s

The United Service Organizations will present In the Mood today at the Stranahan Theater. The musical, which begins at 3 p.m., will take patrons to a post-war celebration featuring a large cast and internationally recognized big band orchestra String of Pearls playing hit music of the 1940s. A tribute to veterans will include a singer and dancers in uniform. Military veterans will be honored during the show. Tickets are $30, $35, and $40 at the Stranahan box office. Military personnel can purchase tickets for $25.

Jazz man Calvin Hughes will celebrate his 50th birthday with the Calvin Hughes Jazz Series. The live show will take place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Toledo. The celebration will feature a full dinner buffet. Musical guests include Clifford Murphy, Skip Turner, Jesse Coleman, Joan Crawford, and recording artist John Brooks. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12.50 for children under 12. Children 3 and younger are free. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the Toledo Urban Credit Union, 1339 Dorr St., and Jack's Men's Wear, 3414 Dorr St.

Royalty is headed to the Stranahan Theater Friday night. But don't expect a duke and duchess. Instead, prepare for comedians Sommore, Bruce Bruce, Mark Curry, and Earthquake as they present the Royal Comedy Tour. Tickets are $40.50 and $49.50.
