Sam Szor to be honored for 54 years of leadership

Sam Szor has enjoyed a long and storied musical career in Toledo. He has been Woodward High School band director, leader of the Toledo Conert band and was band director and, later, administrator at the University of Toledo.

The Toledo Choral Society will honor Samuel P. Szor for 54 years of leadership at a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brandywine Country Club, 6904 Salisbury Rd., Maumee.

Szor was named director emeritus in May by the choral group, which is currently in its 93rd season. The new director is Rick Napierala, a busy Toledo musician who is preparing the choir for its upcoming Messiah performances with the Toledo Symphony.

A brief program at 4 p.m. will be emceed by Gordon Ward, who worked with Szor for decades at Music Under the Stars, the summer concert series at the Toledo Zoo.
