Theater lovers have a lot of weekend choices

The Valentine Theatre is flush with offerings this weekend as its main stage welcomes Hair and continues its run of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!

A group of long-haired politically active hippies are center stage in this sold-out 8 p.m. Friday performance of Hair, part of the Valentine’s Broadway Series.

It opened in April, 1968, on Broadway and closed July, 1972, after 1,750 performances.

The rock musical boasted four Broadway revivals; the last one closing in September, 2011.

A look at love and relationships brings much laughter as Studio Theatre A continues to host I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change! at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through March 10.

“Hair” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday in the Valentine Theatre, 400 N. Superior St. The show is sold out. “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!” performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through March 10 in Studio A Theatre, 410 Adams St.

Fake Funeral

A practical joker stages his own wake this weekend when Children’s Theatre Workshop Teen Company presents Parlor Games at the Collingwood Arts Center.

Mort wants to hear what people will say about him when he’s laid to rest. His wife is mortified and wants to teach her joker a lesson.

The audience will meet several wake-goers in this comedic farce that includes mistaken identities, chases, and jokes within jokes.

“Parlor Games” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Collingwood Arts Center Tansey-Zimmerman Theatre, 2413 Collingwood Blvd. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children. Information: 419-244-5061 or ctw.org.

Heavy Heart

Two young Jewish girls’ views of Nazi Germany will be shared Wednesday as part of the Theater Vision series at Lourdes University Franciscan Center.

My Heart in a Suitcase is the story of Anne Lehmann Fox, who escaped aboard the Kindertransport.

She was allowed to carry one suitcase and left behind her family and friends in the hope of finding a better life. TV Day: The World of Anne Frank focuses on her view of Hitler, the Nazis, and the war against Jews in Europe. More than 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

Both presentations are open to the public.

“My Heart in a Suitcase” and “TV Day: The World of Anne Frank” will each be performed at 10 a.m. and at 12:15 p.m. on separate stages in the Franciscan Center at Lourdes University, 6832 Convent Blvd.
