Director Fred Dais conducts the Owens Community College Band on Sunday afternoon during the Winter Pops at the Fine Arts Center on the college's Perrysburg Township campus. The band featured several guest performers, selections ranging from "The Star Spangled Banner" to the works of Walt Disney films and a visit from Dan Rogers, president of the Cherry Street Mission Ministries.

College freshmen and two World War II veterans are among the members of the Owens Community College Band, which played a Winter Pops Concert today.

"Folks in the band are made of some students and faculty, but mostly community members that love music," Owens band conductor William Dias said.

Mr. Dias was excited about the Walt Disney performance the band put on at Mainstage Theatre on Oregon Road at the Owens campus in Perrysburg Township.

While the band played several Walt Disney songs, such as Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, art professor Kevin Schroeder was painting a mural of Walt Disney.

"He is a prominent artist," Mr. Dias said. "He has displays all over the country."

Another big act was a xylophone solo from music faculty member Michael Sanders. Mr. Dias said beforehand that he would "wow people" and is "fast as dickens."

There was also James Bond music, a Wizard of Oz meets Wiz song, and some classics such as the Saints come Marching In.

While the concert was free to the public, donations were accepted for Cherry Street Mission Ministries.

"Our band likes providing music to the community and enjoys playing," Mr. Dias said.
