Sunday fund-raiser features 5 bands
4/25/2013When Toledo attorney and musician Larry Meyer began organizing Sunday’s Raise Some Cash fund-raiser for the Feed Your Neighbor program he was humbled by how easy it was to find bands to participate. “To get five bands, I made five calls,” he said.
This is the fourth incarnation of the event. This year’s lineup at the Village Idiot, 309 Conant St. in Maumee, will feature Andrew Ellis and Lucky Lemont, Meyer’s band Old State Line, Shane Piasecki with Chuck Mauk and Frank May, Jeff Stewart and the 25s, and Kentucky Chrome.
Each artist will play one or more Johnny Cash songs, in line with the event’s name, which Meyer explained. “Number one, I think it just sounds cool,” he said. “And it gave rise to, or could easily tie into, a graphic or image. Also to me it spoke to the nature of the project. Johnny Cash was a lot of things, but certainly a Christian was one of them. And [it spoke to] his public stance on behalf of the downtrodden.”
Meyer said that each Raise Some Cash event has brought in $2,000 to $3,000, which is used to buy food and other supplies.
Entry is free for the Sunday show, but a $5 per-person donation is suggested. Music starts at 3 p.m. with Andrew Ellis and Lucky Lemont followed by Old State Line at 4, Shane Piasecki at 5, Jeff Stewart and the 25s at 6, and Kentucky Chrome at 7.
