DUKE AT THE ROADHOUSE: LIVE IN SANTA FE

Eddie Daniels & Roger Kellaway (IPO Recordings)

There are a lot of Duke Ellington tributes, but this new one is a real standout.

Ellington's music is infectious enough on its own. But as the Duke himself used to say: "It Don't Mean a Thing if It Ain't Got That Swing!" And that's what this lovely recording has - sheer swing, heart and a whole lot more.

At the center of the small combo format is clarinetist-tenor saxophonist Eddie Daniels and pianist Roger Kellaway. Daniels' performances on clarinet are especially memorable. The album was recorded live at a benefit concert in New Mexico which raised money for a group that uses therapy horses to help young people with disabilities.
