Former Dire Straits members to tour

Dire Straits is coming to northwest Ohio, minus frontman Mark Knopfler and the “Dire.”

The Straits, which features two former Dire Straits members, keyboardist Alan Clark and saxophonist Chris White, performs at 7:30 p.m. March 6 at the State Theatre, 107 Columbus Ave. in Sandusky. Rounding out the Straits’ lineup are Steve Ferrone, drummer from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers; Mickey Féat, bass; Adam Phillips, guitar; Jamie Squire, keyboards; and Terence Reis, taking over for Knopfler on vocals and guitar.

Known for the radio mainstays “Sultans of Swing,” “Money for Nothing,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “Skateaway,” “Walk of Life,” and “Calling Elvis,” Dire Straits debuted in 1978 with its eponymous album and enjoyed heavy rotation on MTV nearly a decade later through the use of groundbreaking computer animation in its music videos from 1985’s “Brother in Arms.” The band released its final studio effort in 1991, “On Every Street,” and went on hiatus after a world tour as Knopfler pursued a solo career.
