ANCHORAGE, Alaska A strong earthquake has jolted urban centers in Alaska, sending people diving under desks and huddling under doorways.

The 5.3 magnitude quake was felt over a wide swatch of southcentral Alaska Monday, including Anchorage, the state's largest city, where the rumble continued for several moments.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says there are no immediate reports of damage or injury from the 11:28 a.m. earthquake and no tsunami will be generated.

The earthquake was centered about 55 miles northwest of Anchorage.
