SEATTLE — Democratic Rep. Brian Baird says he will vote yes on his party's massive health care overhaul bill, changing his stance from last fall, when he voted no on the health care proposal.

In a statement, Baird of Vancouver, said Sunday that the nation's health care system can't be sustained and must be improved. Baird, who is not seeking re-election this year, was one of a handful of Democrats who broke party rank and voted against health care overhaul last November.

Democratic leaders said Sunday that they will meet or exceed the 216 votes required in the House for passage of the health care bill, but convincing fellow Democrats who previously voted no remained a task for party leaders.
