Kansas City police have little to go on in disappearance of 10-month-old girl

An Amber Alert has been issued for Lisa Irwin, a 10-month-old girl who apparently was abducted from her Kansas City, Mo., bedroom overnight.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Detectives looking for a missing 10-month-old Kansas City girl who may have been snatched from her crib are struggling to find leads in the investigation Wednesday after an intense search a day earlier turned up few substantial clues, police said.

Lisa Irwin was last seen when her mother put her to bed at their northern Kansas City home about 10:30 p.m. Monday. The search began about 4 a.m. Tuesday when her father returned home from work and discovered her missing.

Police are investigating the possibility that an intruder entered the home through a window and took the baby.

A daylong search Tuesday that included more than 100 officers and police dogs yielded no substantial clues. Interviews with the parents that ended late Tuesday also didn't provide any clues, spokesman Steve Young said Wednesday.

"That didn't turn up anything that I can say 'We're looking for this person or this vehicle,'" Young said.

The parents, who police say are cooperating with the investigation, were staying with relatives away from their northern Kansas City home.

Detectives are frustrated by the lack of direction for the investigation but were meeting early Wednesday to determine their next course of action, spokesman Darin Snapp said.

"We're just waiting for the right tip to come in," Snapp said.

Snapp said a report that a neighbor saw a man in the neighborhood carrying a baby overnight Tuesday "went nowhere."

Lisa has blue eyes and blond hair. She is 30 inches tall and weighs between 26 and 30 pounds. Police say she has two bottom teeth, a small bug bite under her left ear and a beauty mark on her right thigh. She also has a cold with a cough.

She was wearing purple shorts and a purple shirt with white kittens on it.
