Consumer borrowing falls most in 16 months

WASHINGTON -- Total consumer borrowing dropped by $9.5 billion in August, the most in 16 months, the Federal Reserve reported Friday.

The drop follows an increase of $11.9 billion in July.

GM delays plans to add 2nd shift to build Volt

DETROIT -- General Motors Co. said Friday it is delaying plans to add a second shift at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant, which makes Chevrolet Volt electric cars.

GM said the change had nothing to do with Volt sales, which have been slower than expected.
