Air Force investigators say engine failure caused summer F-16 crash in Wisconsin
10/18/2011MADISON, Wis. — U.S. Air Force investigators say engine failure is to blame for this summer’s crash of a fighter plane in central Wisconsin.
The Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Board released a statement Tuesday saying the F-16C Falcon was flying air-to-air combat exercises on June 7 when the pilot experienced a “sudden loss of thrust” and cockpit readings indicated engine failure.
The pilot tried to re-start the plane in mid-air but failed. He ejected safely before the plane crashed into a vacant vacation home in the Adams County town of New Chester.
