DETROIT -- A Detroit dog rescue group says it has received about $1.5 million in stock options from an anonymous donor to help build a no-kill shelter. Detroit Dog Rescue said the donor had learned about the group's unsuccessful effort to save a stray "pit bull" from destruction last month.
Detroit Dog Rescue was co-founded by Monica Martino after city officials denied a Discovery Channel request to film her series A Dog's Life. Mayor Dave Bing ordered a ban last year on reality television crews tagging along with police after crews were present on a raid in which a 7-year-old girl was shot and killed.
