ST. LOUIS — Prosecutors have charged a part-time student accused of shooting a St. Louis college administrator and then himself with first-degree assault.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce today also charged 34-year-old Sean Johnson with armed criminal action and firearms violations in Tuesday's shooting at the Stevens Institute of Business & Art.

Both Johnson and the shooting victim, financial aid director Greg Elsenrath, remain hospitalized following surgery. The school said on its Facebook and Twitter pages today that Elsenrath is expected to recover fully.

Prosecutors say in a probable cause statement that Johnson and Elsenrath had a heated exchange Monday about Johnson's financial aid. They say that after another discussion on Tuesday, Johnson shot Elsenrath in the chest.
