BRYAN, Texas  — Two Central Texas firefighters are in serious but stable condition as investigators try to determine what sparked a lodge hall fire that killed two colleagues.

Bryan city spokeswoman Mary Lynne Stratta said today that Ricky Mantey, Jr., and Mitchel Moran are recovering at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Both suffered burns.

Fire department officials have planned a news conference today to provide additional details on the investigation.

The fire broke out late Friday at an unoccupied Knights of Columbus hall. The roof collapsed during the blaze.

Lt. Eric Wallace died at the scene, and Lt. Gregory Pickard died later Saturday at a hospital.

Services for Wallace are scheduled for Thursday in Bryan, located about 90 miles northwest of Houston. Services are pending for Pickard.
