UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Authorities in a Maryland suburb of Washington are searching for the suspect in the slaying of an off-duty D.C. police officer in what they say may have been a “domestic-related homicide.”

Prince George’s County police Cpl. Maria McKinney says officers were called to an Upper Marlboro home Monday evening for a report of a shooting.

McKinney said early today that a man, identified as a member of the Metropolitan Police Department, was shot and killed by a family member. His name has not been released.

Police initially believed the suspect might be barricaded inside the home, but they now say the suspect has left the area and an active search is underway.
