Police: 1 dead after Maine condo explosion

YARMOUTH, Maine  — Police say one person is dead following an apparent gas explosion that leveled a building at a condominium complex in Yarmouth, Maine.

State police spokesman Steve McCausland says the body of 65-year-old Peter Corey was found in the rubble following the explosion at about 6:20 a.m. today. Two others suffered minor injuries.

The condo complex is made up of groupings of modern, upscale attached homes. The explosion disintegrated one of the homes, turning wallboard into powder and leaving a large debris field around the neighborhood. Officials say 10 or more other condos were damaged.

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating, but McCausland said propane is the likely cause
