PHOENIX — A Phoenix man is in custody for allegedly killing his mother’s dog after it bit him.

Phoenix police say 30-year-old Eugenio Yanio Bilbao Jr. is being held on suspicion of one count of animal cruelty.

He was arrested at his home Sunday after his mother reported finding her dog in two plastic containers that were burned and placed in a closet.

Police say Bilbao was taking care of the 2-month-old female chihuahua when it bit him.

After being bit, Bilbao allegedly hit the dog.

The Arizona Republic says the state Humane Society will perform a necropsy on the chihuahua.
