LONG BEACH, Calif. — An elementary school teacher has been fatally stabbed while watching her students play at a park in Long Beach.

Teacher Kelleye Taylor was watching two dozen students at a playground near the Huntington Academy on a weekly outing the school called “Fun Friday.”

Witnesses tell the Long Beach Press-Telegram that Taylor was stabbed in the neck by a man police later identified as the father of her grandchildren.

Soon after, police arrested Steven Brown of Long Beach on suspicion of carrying out the Friday afternoon slaying.

Long Beach Police Sgt. Aaron Eaton says investigators recovered the weapon they believe Brown used, but have not developed a possible motive.

Brown was taken to Long Beach’s jail, where he was held on $1 million bail.
