Man gets 10-year prison sentence for selling gun to killer in 2011 Grand Rapids shootings
2/3/2014GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Grand Rapids-area man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for providing a gun that was used in the deaths of seven people in 2011.
Federal Judge Paul Maloney tells Michael Allen that the “wreckage” of his actions was “unspeakable.”
Allen was in Maloney’s Kalamazoo court Monday, months after pleading guilty to selling the gun to Rodrick Dantzler. Dantzler killed his estranged wife, their daughter and five other people before killing himself in Grand Rapids.
Defense attorney Frank Stanley says Allen didn’t know what Dantzler would do with the gun. Prosecutors say that as an ex-convict, Allen knew he could be in trouble because of his ties to the gun.
A man who illegally had the gun before Allen is serving a five-year sentence.
