Anaheim police shoot, kill suspect who fired on probation officers, shot police dog
3/20/2014ANAHEIM, Calif. — Police say Anaheim officers shot and killed a man who fired on probation officers and later shot and badly wounded a police dog.
Police Lt. Tim Schmidt says the officers were looking for a man and found him on a street corner with two others Thursday.
Schmidt tells the Orange County Register the other men fled and one of them fired three times on an officer who followed him. No officers were hurt.
Police began searching door-to-door and by helicopter for the suspect.
A police dog found him in an apartment-complex courtyard, and the man shot the dog twice.
Police then shot him, and he died at the scene. It was not clear how many officers fired, or how many times.
The dog, named Bruno, was having emergency surgery.
