EAST LANSING, Mich. — Police say a 19-year-old ex-con has been charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old Michigan State University student at his off-campus apartment.

East Lansing police say that Marquay McCoy was arraigned Thursday on open murder, armed robbery and firearms charges. A judge has ordered him jailed without bond and has scheduled a probable cause hearing March 28.

Police say McCoy shot Dominique Nolff of Middleville on Jan. 31 at the Cedar Village apartment complex in East Lansing. Nolff’s 20-year-old roommate was shot and wounded.

Police say they arrested McCoy on Feb. 18 for violating terms of his release from prison.

The Associated Press was unable to immediately determine if McCoy has a lawyer. An email message seeking information on his legal representation was left with East Lansing police.
