WASHINGTON — Virginia State Police have told broadcast outlets that one person is dead and others have been injured after a 16-passenger shuttle bus overturned beside Interstate 95 near Washington.

A state police spokeswoman, Corinne Geller, told WTOP the bus crashed after 3 a.m. Sunday in Fairfax County, Va. Geller tells WTOP the commuter bus was headed south when a white, four-door passenger vehicle swerved at high speed into the bus’s travel lane.

She says the bus driver, seeking to avoid the vehicle, swerved and ran off the right side of the interstate, hit a guardrail and overturned. Geller tells WTOP that the other vehicle is being sought.

There were no immediate details on the fatality. Reports say two injured people were taken by helicopter to a Fairfax hospital.
