SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — A 27-year-old Southfield man has been charged with the fatal stabbing of his father at a suburban Detroit hotel.

Stevenson Shelton was arraigned Saturday on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of 66-year-old Ivie Shelton Thursday at a Southfield hotel. His next hearing is scheduled for May 12.

Southfield police tell the Oakland Press that Stevenson Shelton had a large hunting knife when officers confronted him.

It wasn’t clear if Shelton has an attorney. A court clerk said today that information wasn’t yet available.
