LIVONIA, Mich. — Police say a player critically injured a referee with a punch to the head during an adult soccer match in suburban Detroit.

In a news release, Livonia police say the unnamed referee was unconscious when officers arrived at Mies Park Sunday afternoon.

Livonia fire Advanced Life Support took the victim to an area hospital. The referee is listed in critical condition.

Wayne County prosecutor’s spokesman Maria Miller says her office is reviewing a warrant request sent in by Livonia police.
