Monroe's Halloween Fest a 'nightmare' on Front St.

10/25/2007

MONROE - It's going to be a real "nightmare" in downtown tomorrow night, thanks to the Monroe County Convention & Tourism Bureau.

As the kickoff event for the fourth Annual River Raisin Halloween Festival, visitors to East Front Street will be able to visit tents and sample treats from downtown Monroe's restaurants, cafes, and pubs and while listening to live entertainment. The event starts at 7 p.m.

The night will also feature a costume contest for adults. Contestants will visit downtown shops, restaurants, and cafes and have a specially prepared entry card validated by the store's manager or owners. Completed cards will be entered into the drawing for the best costume and other prizes. Rules will be available at participating businesses and on the Tourism Bureau Web site at www.monroeinfo.com.

Then on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m., the annual costume contest for kids will kick off at the Dorsch Memorial Library, while there will be trick-or-treating from noon until 2 p.m. at all participating downtown merchants. There will also be live music on a stage at the intersection of Washington and East Front streets.
