MONROE Monroe Public Schools teacher Sarah Richardville will be the dean of the new Middle College being launched by the Monroe County Intermediate School District.

Mrs. Richardville was hired by the ISD board last week. She is the wife of State Sen. Randy Richardville (R., Monroe).

The ISD has received a $250,000 grant from the state Department of Education to begin the first phase of the Middle College, which will include an extra year of high school education and blend students into classes at Monroe County Community College to focus on education in health sciences.

The program, which will begin in September, will offer dual high-school and community-college enrollment as well as hands-on training at Monroe Mercy Hospital, allowing students to earn college credits and health-care certificates.

Mrs. Richardville, who will be paid $65,800 a year, will leave her job as health-science teacher at Monroe schools to oversee enrollment procedures and student support services for the Middle College. She has been a teacher in the school district since 1997.

She also has worked as laboratory services manager for the American Red Cross in Toledo and taught chemistry and biology at the community college and Marian College in Fond du Lac, Wis.

Robert Krueger was hired in January as principal of the Middle College program. He previously had been youth opportunity program director for the ISD.
