•Lenawee County Library, 4459 West U.S. 223, is looking for bakers for its "Cake-off, Bake-off" Oct. 12. Individuals can bake a cake with a book theme; bake cookies, pies, cupcakes, brownies, and the like; attend the bake sale and purchase home-made treats, or vote for the favorite book-themed cake. •34th annual Miss Northwestern Ohio Scholarship Pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Ohio and Miss America scholarship pageants, will be Nov. 14 in the Defiance Community Auditorium. The pageant committee is seeking female contestants between the ages of 17 and 24, who are single, never been married, or pregnant, and live, work, or go to school in Ohio. The areas of competition are talent, interview, swimsuit, and evening wear. There are no entry fees. The program is affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, and each contestant will be asked to obtain sponsors to contribute a combined $100 to the Children's Miracle Network.
