9/29/2010

MONROE - The annual "lantern tours" sponsored by the Monroe County Historical Museum will be held Oct. 22 and 23 and Oct. 29 and 30 at the Navarre-Anderson Trading Post complex, 3775 North Custer Rd.

"Race, Revolution, and the Rise of Tecumseh" is the theme featured in the story that will be re-enacted during the guided tours that start at 7:30 p.m. Each tour lasts approximately an one hour.

Tickets, $10 per person and $5 for children 12 and under, can be purchased at the museum, 126 South Monroe St. The ticket provides admission, a tour booklet, cider, and doughnuts.

This year's tour, an annual event since the mid-1980s, takes participants to an autumn evening in 1810 in Frenchtown, where they are needed to conduct the census and survey property for the first map of the territory.

The group will drop in on a new school where Native Americans are being taught with white children. Call 734-240-7780 or visit the museum at 126 South Monroe St.
