Fur Trade Day to be Saturday

MONROE -- Fur Trade Day will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe County Historical Museums' Navarre-Anderson Trading Post.

Re-enactors dressed as Native American and French-Canadian settlers will relive what happened in the 1790s at a colonial settlement to prepare for a trade expedition.

The free event will feature the appearance of Genot Picor, an entertainer who expresses his creativity as a storyteller, singer, and musician centered around his French and Native American heritage.

He will perform at 1 p.m.

Mr. Picor, an elementary teacher by profession, has the Indian name "Winter Elk." He had been slated to appear at the post for Sugar Maple Day in March, but the event was canceled because of an ice storm earlier that week.

The event, sponsored by the historical museums, is at 3775 North Custer Rd.
