Work to begin this month on 2 dredging projects to deepen River Raisin
6/12/2011MONROE, Mich. — River Raisin dredging near Monroe will begin later this month by two companies who received contracts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Monroe Evening News reports more than $1.4 million will be spent on the operations to deepen parts of river and the entrance channel near the Port of Monroe.
The work is scheduled to end in August or September.
Army Corps of Engineers spokeswoman Lynn Duerod says the dredging could restrict some boating in the area. She says advisories will be posted.
Documents show dredging is authorized to 23 feet if necessary. The depth of the navigation channel is 21 feet.
Maintenance dredging at Bolles Harbor also is planned this year.
