TEMPERANCE -- Bedford Township's summer tax bills are to be mailed Thursday and must be paid by Sept. 14 to avoid an interest penalty.

After that date, a 1 percent interest charge is added, with the penalty increasing by a percentage point on the first of each new month, said township Treasurer Sherri Meyer.

The bills are payable at the township's government center, either at the drive-through window, drop slot, or inside. They may also be paid at Fifth Third Bank's Lambertville branch and Citizens Bank in Temperance.

Taxpayers should bring their entire bill so the bottom half can be stamped as a receipt.

Taxpayers who are at least 62, earn no more than $40,000, and are disabled may be able to pay late without incurring a penalty by filing an application for deferment of summer taxes by Sept. 14. Forms are available at the township treasurer's office.
