MONROE — Area residents interested in reducing their electric bills through the use of solar power can participate in a solar workshop offered through the Monroe County Community College’s Office of Lifelong Learning.

Solar applications for homeowners, farm operators, and small businesses will be discussed during the workshop in Room 259 of the La-Z-Boy Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 29.

Participants will learn about photovoltaic cells, module types’ advantages, and how to size a system.

The workshop is designed to provide participants with an understanding of how a solar power system works. That includes developing the right system for a specific application, learning the necessary components and system balance, and identifying the advantages of different types of installations and necessary components.

Site viability will be addressed, including improvements that can be made to make a location more viable for solar power usage.

Cost of the course is $149, $87 for seniors.
