Local alumnus becomes assistant superintendent

Edward Manuszak is the Bedford Public Schools’ new assistant superintendent for instruction and student services. The board hired him last week at a salary of $100,000.

Mr. Manuszak was principal at Patterson Elementary in Tecumseh Public Schools, where he also was director of state and federal programs and coordinator for early childhood education. He also taught kindergarten and first grade in Blissfield Community Schools.

He graduated from Bedford High School in 1991 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Butler University and a master’s from Eastern Michigan University. He also holds a school administrator certificate for elementary and secondary levels.

He replaced Jonathan Whan, who resigned in August to become superintendent of a school district in the Grand Rapids, Mich., area.
