COLUMBUS -- The 18th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes easily took care of Akron in the 2011 season opener Saturday afternoon, beating the Zips 42-0. Playing in front of an announced Ohio Stadium crowd of 105,001, Ohio State took a 21-0 lead in the first half, then added three scores in the final two periods.Tight end Jake Stoneburner had three touchdown receptions, a school record for tight ends, while quarterback Joe Bauserman completed 12 of 16 passes for 163 yards and the three scores by Stoneburner.

The Buckeyes gave new head coach Luke Fickell a positive debut, dominating the Zips by holding them to just 90 yards of offense while the OSU offense, despite being depleted by suspensions that kept four starters out of the game, rolled up 515 yards.

Ohio State (1-0) hosts Toledo (1-0) next Saturday.
