End zone: Ohio State 11-8

As one campaign season ends, another one begins.

Call it the Meyer/Miller 2012 ticket.

While Ohio State cannot officially be inaugurated Big Ten or national champions this season, the school's election headquarters are closely monitoring the polls. Ohio remains a heated battleground state as a pair of questions distantly shadowing the No. 5 Buckeyes' final two games will be turned over to the voters: Can they earn a mythical national title and can quarterback Braxton Miller win the Heisman Trophy?

All signs point to not a chance — even the Big Ten Network is prepared to call Ohio. But Karl Rove is not so sure, and that's good enough for me. OSU attempted to get the word out on Miller this week by making him available to national reporters on a conference call while coach Urban Meyer suggested the Buckeyes could hang with the unbeaten teams ahead of them in the AP Top 25.

"I certainly like to think we could," he said, referring to Alabama, Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame.

I disagree on Alabama and Oregon, though too bad we won't find out on the field. For OSU and Miller, who remains widely regarded among the top 5 Heisman candidates, this season is all about the polls.

Let the campaigning begin.
