Town Talk: Jason Thomas

9/13/2012

Jason Thomas, 29, is a fourth-grade teacher at Frank Elementary School. He lives in Perrysburg Township and is married to Adria with two children, Henry and Jane.

1.What’s your favorite fall food? Cinnamon sugar doughnuts from the Cider Mill

2.What football team are you rooting for?

Michigan all the way! That’s where I’m from! Thankfully, I’ve got a bunch of Michigan fans in my class this year, so it should be fun as the year rolls on.

3.What’s the hardest thing about going back to school? Hearing my wife tell me about how my 2-1/2-year-old son and my 1-year-old daughter are going through big time ‘Daddy Withdrawl’ during the first couple weeks of school.

4.What’s your favorite thing about being a teacher? I enjoy being around the kids and making school fun, which in turn, is fun for me. I know that if they are having fun, they are much more likely to master the content that I am attempting to teach.

5.What’s is the funniest one-liner a fourth-grader ever ran by you? “Mr. Thomas, my dog ate my homework... Honestly!” The student then proceeded to give me part of a chewed up worksheet (complete with a little bit of dried doggie slobber).

6.What did you want to be when you grew up?

Growing up just outside of Detroit, I really wanted to play baseball for the Detroit Tigers.

7.What’s your hidden talent? I am a really good tennis player. I played a little in college.

8.Where’s the best place to get pizza in northwest Ohio? My kitchen! My wife makes the best Buffalo Chicken pizza around.

9.What’s on your list of things to do this fall?

Outside of school, I’m looking forward to taking my kids (Henry and Jane), to the Cider Mill. I am hoping to watch my daughter take her first steps. Lastly, I am planning on jumping into lots of big piles of leaves with my wife and kids.

10.What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid? One year, I dressed up as Cecil Fielder from the Detroit Tigers. I stuffed pillows in my shirt to look as big as him. I made a matching jersey. I also got a wig to match his hair. It was great! I think that I was nine or ten at the time.
