Meet the Mosaic, the unveiling of the community mosaic mural Jan. 26 at the Waterville Branch Library, 800 Michigan Ave., is to include a variety of activities.

Community members placed thousands of pieces of colorful glass as they took part in several Make the Mosaic sessions at Something Special Learning Center, the Browning Masonic Community, and Silver Lining Gallery.

The unveiling day is to start at 9 a.m.

The 13-by-6-foot mosaic will be unveiled at 11 a.m. Cake and punch will be served. Other activities throughout the day, which concludes at 2 p.m. at the library, 800 Michigan Ave., include children’s crafts, Friends of the Library merchandside sale, and Friends of the Library book sale.

The permanent art display was sponsored by the Waterville Area Arts Council with financial support from the Library Legacy Foundation of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. Lead artist was Gail Christofferson of Animal House Glass. She lives near Bowling Green; her other mosaic mural projects include one in the Otsego school district.

The mural illustration is by Alison Quinn of Waterville, selected from a field of entries. It represents how reading opens up the world.
