Benefit quilt auction ready for bidders

The annual Black Swamp Benefit, featuring a major auction of quilts, art quilts, wall hangings, and hand-crafted furniture, will be Friday and Saturday at the Fulton County Fairgrounds, 8491 State Rt. 108, Wauseon. Preview Day runs from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday with quilt displays and a mini-auction, food booths, crafts, and children's activities. On Saturday, a pancake and sausage breakfast and the Bullfrog 5K Run/Walk start the day at 7:30 a.m. The major auction begins at 9 a.m. The two-day event benefits programs of Sunshine Inc. of Northwest Ohio and the Mennonite Central Committee. The Village of Holland's annual Strawberry Festival continues through Sunday at Community Homecoming Park, 7807 Angola Rd., Holland. Starting hours are 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday. The Strawberry Queen pageant is at 5 p.m. Saturday; the festival parade starts at 1 p.m. Sunday, and a baseball tournament is slated daily. Information: hollandstrawberryfestival.org.

Plane Fun Fly-In 2011 takes place Saturday and Sunday at Toledo Executive Airport (the former Metcalf Field) in Millbury. View military aircraft including a Chinook helicopter, an A10 Warthog, and C-27J Transport; vintage and experimental aircraft, a radial engine museum, and World War II military vehicles. The Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagles program will offer free rides for youngsters ages 8-17. A pancake breakfast will be held both days, and food from Cafe 582 will be available. Gates open at 9 a.m. both days and continue to about 5 p.m., depending on the crowds. Admission is $5; children 7 and younger will be admitted free.

The Wolcott House, 1031 River Rd., Maumee will hold its annual lawn sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Vendors ranging from individuals to businesses will offer antiques, collectibles, and services. Information: 419-893-9602.

At the Speed of Art 2 will open Saturday with a reception and a classic car show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Flatlanders Art Galleries. Continuing through Sept. 6, the exhibit will celebrate art inspired by motor vehicles, from beloved styles of yesteryear to the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Participating are Todd Kim, Tom Theory, Mike Ennis, and gallery owner Ken Thompson. Flatlanders is at 11993 East U.S. 223, just east of Blissfield, Mich. Information: 517-486-4591.
