Festival fun in Holland, Whitehouse

Two of the area's most popular festivals will kick into gear this weekend. The 75th annual Holland Strawberry Festival is now in its second day and the Whitehouse Cherry Festival kicks off at 6 tonight. The Strawberry Festival runs through Sunday and features carnival rides, games, raffles, food, vendors, live music, and a DJ. Strawberry Festival pageant contestants will be crowned from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Holland festival runs from 4 to 11 p.m. today, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday at 7807 Angola Rd. in Holland. The three-day Whitehouse Cherry Festival will feature carnival rides, animal performances, games, and more. Admission is free, and tickets are required for the rides. Family movie night will take place at 10 p.m. Friday. The featured movie is Madagascar 3. A cherry pie-eating contest will take place at 2 p.m Saturday. Wambold's Amazing Animals show will feature a white tiger and Siberian tiger in the great cage. Shows will be performed all three days. A fireworks show is planned for 10 p.m. Saturday. The festival will be held in Whitehouse Village Park in the downtown area. Activities will run until 11 p.m. tonight. Doors will reopen from noon to midnight Friday and 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday. Get an up-close look at the machines that make farming possible during Sauder Village's Tractors, Tractors, Tractors event Saturday. Modern tractors as well as historic models from the 1920s to the 1960s will be displayed. Visitors can enjoy hands on-activities as part of the Dairy Days event at the village. The celebration will highlight the importance of the dairy industry with demonstrations of cooking and cream separating. Guests can help make butter, ice-cream, biscuits, and more. The tractor show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Dairy Days runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
