    ● Lucid Dreams, new work by Julie A. Beutler and dozens of other artists, will open with a 6 to 9 p.m. reception Saturday and continue through June 8 at Angelwood Gallery. Beutler, who owns the shop, has 100 new clay pieces and photographs from a year of travels. The gallery is at 24195 Front St. in Grand Rapids, Ohio.     ● Autism: A Mexican Adventure, opens with a 7 to 9 p.m. reception Saturday in LeSo Gallery, 1527 Starr Ave. It’s a series of 17 mixed-media panels by Craig Matis of Cleveland, accompanied by audio; both tell the story of a man who takes his autistic son on a trip through Mexico while coping with the death of his wife. On the panels, Matis uses folded paper, 3-D pencil drawings, acrylics, and spray paint to incorporate his experiences raising a special needs child into a narrative that leads father and son on a dream journey. He will return for a talk and closing reception from 7 to 9 p.m. May 24. Information: lesogallery.com.

    ● A reception for Rust-Belt-Muse, a solo show of sculptures by Sandra Jane Heard, will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. The 17 pieces, composed of re-appropriated materials and made using both traditional craft and textile techniques, will continue on view through June 27 at River House Arts, 115 W.     ● Ode to Oak Openings, with 60 paintings, sculptures, and clay pieces, opens Friday and continues through May 31 at American Gallery, 6600 Sylvania Rd., Sylvania. A reception will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Owner Toni Andrews plans to close the gallery at the end of June. Information: 419-882-8949.

    ● How Bazaar, a merging of five previous events into one, will be Aug. 2 and 3 in downtown Jackson, Mich. Artists can apply by May 20 (fee: $30) or by the June 15 deadline (fee: $45).     ● Winning the top award in Ohio’s Fifth District’s annual contest is Dorothy Gonzales of Bowling Green High School. Her Scratch That Thought will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Entering were 64 students from 11 schools.

    ● At the Toledo Museum of Art:

    ● A 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday program for people who have mild memory loss and their companions, will be themed to the Art of the Louvre’s Tuileries Garden exhibit. It includes flower-pot painting. Registration is required: call 1-800-272-3900.

    ● Tours for Art in Bloom, for which amateur arrangers created bouquets inspired by museum works, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. and noon Saturday, and 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday. Meet at the Matisse mural.

    ● A dozen more bouquets are on view through the weekend in the Glass Pavilion, where professional florists discussed their ideas for vase design with Jeff Mack, manager of studio glass. The vases were then realized by glassmakers, and this week, filled with flowers by the florists.

    ● Closing Sunday is the Art of the Louvre’s Tuileries Garden show, for which there will be a tour at 2 p.m. that day. There is a fee for exhibit entry.

    ● A baby tour will be 3:30 p.m. May 16 for caregivers with infants up to 18 months. Meet in the Family Center.

    ● A talk on sculpture and society in Egypt (525-404 BCE) will be at 7:30 p.m. May 16 in the Little Theater.

    Egypt was a province of the Achaemenid Persian Empire at this time, and as a result, it’s often omitted altogether from textbooks and other studies. It was, however, a period of dynamic art and thought.

    Speaking will be Henry Colburn of the University of Michigan. The event is co-sponsored by AIA-Toledo Society.

    ● From the Roots Up features the work of Efterpe Troupic, through May, at Grace Episcopal Church, 315 Wayne St., Sandusky. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. See her work at www.skystudioart.com.

    ● Art by members of the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council is in the halls of Magruder Hospital, 615 Fulton St., Port Clinton.

The exhibition, ending June 1, projects the image of the samurai not only as fierce warriors but also as artists, art patrons, and scholars.
