Lucas County Fair opens on Tuesday

Lucas County Fairgrounds will open its gates Tuesday for the 156th annual Lucas County Fair. Animals, games, rides, contests, fair food, exhibits, magicians, BMX demonstrations, free archery and airgun instruction for kids, arts and crafts, music acts, and much more are all on deck for the family festival. Daily musical acts are Old School on Tuesday, the Tony Godsey Band Wednesday, and the Rodney Parker & Liberty Beach band on July 10. All shows start at 7 p.m.

On July 11, Mr. Speed, a KISS tribute band, will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by 56 Daze at 9:30 p.m. Jessica Hannan will perform July 12 at 6 p.m. and Velvet Jones at 9 p.m. Just Us Two will close out the fair on July 13 with a noon performance.

Admission is $6 per day and free before 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Gates open at 11 a.m. daily and rides start at noon. Fair gates close at 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. Sunday.

Other fair highlights include livestock and horse and pony shows, tractor pull contests, a homemade apple pie contest, and off-road car show. Advance tickets are available at The Andersons stores for $5. Parking is $3. Ride tickets and all-day riding passes range from $5 to $12, depending on the day and time. The Whitehouse 150th birthday celebration takes place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Village Park. The day kicks off with a parade starting on Oak Brook Drive. The free event also will feature food vendors, music, an antique car and tractor show, horse and carriage rides, singing contests, kids' games and activities, tours of historic homes and buildings, educational stories, an old-time softball game, and more. The celebration will wrap up with fireworks at 10 p.m. Information: whitehouseoh.gov.

 

Neo-soul and R&B crooner Maxwell will bring his Summer Soulstice tour to Hollywood Casino Toledo with a performance at 8 tonight. The two-time Grammy Award winner's classic songs include Fortunate, Sumthin' Sumthing,' and Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder), as well as Pretty Wings, and Fist Full of Tears from his 2009 platinum-selling album BLACKsummers'night. The album, the first in a trilogy, received six Grammy nominations including two wins for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Male Vocal Performance for Pretty Wings. Toledo concert-goers also will get a sneak peek of songs on Maxwell's upcoming album, due out later this summer. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased online at ticketweb.com.
