Art Walk set for Warehouse District, UpTown

    The penultimate Art Walk of the year will be 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 28 in the Warehouse District on downtown’s south end and in UpTown, along Adams Street. In both areas (a bit far to walk to one from the other, but eminently bikeable) there will be artists and crafters selling goods, music, open galleries and studios, and eateries. The final Art Walk will be Sept. 25. To see a map of the many participating venues, check theartscommission.org. Maps will also be available at participating venues.

    UpTown, on Adams between 14th and 18th streets, will feature a circus theme with fire performers, stilt walkers, palm readers, psychics, and clowns. A stage at Adams and 14th streets will host music, and a Poetry Corner will be at the Toledo Loves Love Wall nearby.

    Artists will sell their wares in a closed-to-traffic section of Adams (14th and 15th streets), and food trucks Displaced Chef and Rosie’s Rollling Chef will be parked nearby. Don’t miss seeing the beautiful new UpTown Green park (2.5 acres, $2 million) at 18th and Madison Avenue.

    Alternative Impressionism: The Fiber Art of Ann Kniep is displayed through September at Starbucks in Levis Commons, Perrysburg. Kniep has been felting for a decade, using needle as paintbrush to fashion landscapes, abstracts, and still lifes from sheep’s wool, llama fiber, and spun silk. The show is organized by Prizm Creative Community.

    Call for artists:

    Love a movie? Create a poster for it and submit to the Popcorn Posters — AIGA Toledo Summer show by Sept. 8. Fee is $15. Posters will be hung in the Secor Gallery where they’ll be sold at silent auction from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Sept. 20. Work can be digital design, print making, collage, sketch, paint, photograph, etc., and materials must be archival and flat enough to hang.     A photography workshop with landscape shooter Ian Adams, author of 19 photography books, will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 in the Manor House at Wildwood Preserve.     The the Toledo Museum of Art:

    ●Drop in to the Cloister at 7 tonight when a docent will provide insight to this intriguing space. At 7 p.m. on Friday, take a tour of the Glass Pavilion, and at 8 p.m., a tour of art related to myth and legend will meet in Libbey Court. The latter tour will be repeated at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday The museum is open until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

    At the Toledo Artists’ Club, Elaine’s Little Picassos children’s art classes are accepting students. Ages 12-18 will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesdays starting Sept. 3 and a mixed-media class for ages 6-11 will meet at 10 a.m. Saturdays starting Sept. 6. Cost is $7 per class.     Save the date: The Fair Trade Oriental Rug Event returns Oct. 1-4 to the Ten Thousand Villages store in Archbold. These high-quality rugs in tribal, geometric, traditional, and floral patterns, are made by adults, mostly women, who live in Pakistan and are paid a fair wage.
