Toledo police are seeking information through the Crime Stopper program about the shooting of a 7-year-old boy who was hit by an errant bullet while sleeping inside his house at 1238 Prospect St.

David Pope was struck while sleeping on a mattress in the dining room about 1:50 a.m. Nov. 18. The shot was fired during a fight in the parking lot of Mr. J's nightclub, 1941 North Detroit Ave., and passed through the wall of the boy's nearby house, police said.

The bullet went through the boy's back, collapsing a lung. He is being treated at Toledo Children's Hospital.

Police said 75 to 100 people were in the lot when the shooting occurred.

The city closed the bar Tuesday, alleging it has building violations and is a public nuisance.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Crime Stopper program. A $6,000 reward for information in solving the case is being offered. Callers may remain anonymous.
