NORTH ADAMS, Mich. - A man robbed the Southern Michigan Bank & Trust here early yesterday and then sped away on Main Street on an all-terrain vehicle.

Michigan State Police troopers responded to a 9:12 a.m. holdup alarm at the bank at 102 East Main St., just northeast of the city of Hillsdale.

Witnesses say a man hidden behind a black ski mask and armed with what is believed to have been a 22-caliber pistol robbed the bank. There were no customers in it at the time.

He took an undetermined amount of cash and escaped on a four-wheeler, heading eastbound on Main Street out of the village. Witnesses said the vehicle was blue, dark green, or camouflage, said Sgt. Robert Hanson of the Jonesville state police post.

“ATVs are not unusual here in Hillsdale County, but we don't usually see them parked in front of a bank,” he said.
