LIMA - A 77-year-old woman died early yesterday when she could not escape her burning Perry Township home just southeast of Lima, fire officials said.

The Perry Township volunteer fire department said Florence Jones, of East 14th Street, died in the 3:37 a.m. fire. Two daughters and a grandson escaped the fire.

They told investigators that they extinguished a small chimney fire earlier that evening. The state fire marshal's office has been called in to investigate the blaze.

Fire officials said they could not estimate the worth of the two-story wood-frame home until they get a report from the homeowner's insurance company.
