BOWLING GREEN - A Bowling Green State University student was named in a bill of information this week charging him with setting six small fires in a campus residence hall.

Christopher Appleby, 18, of Solon, Ohio was charged with arson, a fourth-degree felony, in the information filed yesterday in Wood County Common Pleas Court. He is to appear before Judge Charles Kurfess May 21.

According to BGSU police reports, Mr. Appleby admitted setting the fires about 5:30 a.m. Dec. 9 inside the Harshman/Broomfield residence hall. He told police he pulled the fire alarm about 3:20 a.m. the same day “for no other reason than to force others to leave the building,” the report states.
