Police seek 2 in drive-by attack

Toledo police issued arrest warrants yesterday for two men accused of being involved in the drive-by shooting of a 16-year-old Highland Avenue boy while he was sitting in a neighborhood park across from his home.

Terrance Lamar Pettis, 22, of 2638 Maplewood Ave., was charged with two counts of felonious assault in the shooting Wednesday at Highland and Maplewood Avenue. Police think he was a passenger in the car and fired shots that injured Dennis Scott.

Jermaine Tyrone Morgan, 20, of 2437 Hollywood Ave., was charged with two counts of complicity to felonious assault. Police think he was driving the car from which the shots were fired.

The men were not in custody.

Police also were looking for two other people who were in the car and the vehicle - a late 1980s maroon Dodge Dynasty with no distinguishing features, gang task force Lt. Dave Schmidt said.

Young Scott was in serious condition last night in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with a gunshot wound in the side.

His mother could not be reached for comment.

Lieutenant Schmidt said the shooting was gang related, but did not know whether young Scott was the intended target.

He said some of those suspected in the shooting are thought to be affiliated with one gang, and some of those who were being shot at allegedly are associated with another gang.

The day before the shooting, there was a fight between some of the people in the 3300 block of Glenwood Avenue. The shooting may have been a continuation of the fight, the lieutenant said.

At least one person opened fire from the car as it drove past the park and turned eastbound onto Highland about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday. Bystanders ran for cover. Shots struck a nearby car at least twice, putting a hole in the hood and shattering the rear window, police said.
