A Machen Street man was arrested yesterday and accused in the rape and robbery of a 42-year-old woman who police said was dragged into the suspect's apartment and repeatedly assaulted.

Louis Boyd, 51, of 460 Machen, was charged with two counts of rape and a count of robbery. He was in the Lucas County jail last night. No bond has been set.

According to police Capt. Mike Murphy, the woman was walking near Machen and Collingwood Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. yesterday when the suspect grabbed her and began choking her, pulling her into his apartment.

He stole $32 and then attacked her, threatening her with a tire iron, he said.

About daybreak, she broke free and ran out the front door, but the suspect forced her back inside. About 6:45 a.m., she ran to a second-floor window. Her attacker grabbed her, then let her fall to the ground, Sgt. Richard Murphy said. A neighbor who heard the commotion called police.

The woman also was jailed on several unrelated warrants.
