Gunman bursts into home, shoots resident twice

6/30/2001

A Toledo man was shot yesterday after a man burst into his home and demanded money, authorities said.

Evor Clark, 44, of Mulberry Street, who was shot in the torso and leg, was listed in fair condition last night in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Mr. Clark, Henry Strahan, 46, and Yolanda Gordon, 40, all of the Mulberry address, were sitting around a dining room table at the Mulberry duplex about 1:30 a.m. when someone knocked on the door. When Mr. Strahan opened it, a man wearing a ski mask forced his way inside, pointed a gun, and demanded money, they told police.

Mr. Strahan ran out the door and was confronted by a second suspect. The two wrestled, and the suspect eventually was pushed from the porch and fled while Mr. Strahan ran for help. Inside, Ms. Gordon crouched in a corner, while Mr. Clark tried to run from the kitchen. The gunman shot Mr. Clark in the leg, and then again in the torso as Mr. Clark fell to the floor, police said.
